Silk Flowers

I HEART these flowers. I must admit since all I have around the house are trucks, dirty little boy socks, and more trucks, I am seriously addicted to making girly things. It's a good thing in our neighborhood that everyone and their mom's are having baby girls! I get to live through them!! I have posted a picture from aleciasphotography.blogspot.com . I was lucky enough to have this amazing photographer use a flower that I made during a newborn photo shoot. I also have copied and pasted the tutorial from diaryofacraftaholic.blogspot.com I love these flowers because you can use them for anything! Attach them to a pearl necklace, use it as a brooch on a dress or cardigan, hot glue them on a picture frame, bracelet, or headband.

Singed Flower TUTORIAL

Here's how I made my Singed Flower headband from last week. Several of you said you'd made tons of these, and I've only done a handful, so if you have a better way, helpful tips, or want to add something, let me know and I'll add it in.
Supplies:
  • organza fabric made of 100% nylon, rayon, or polyester (you don't need much, scraps will do)
  • lighter
  • scissors
  • small piece of felt
  • pins
  • low heat glue gun
  • brad for flower center
  • knee highs, nylons, or tights (feel free to use that pair of nylons that snagged when you opened them!)
  • about 3" of coordinating ribbon
To Make a Singed Flower:

Cut circles out of fabric. Make each circle about 3/4" bigger than the previous. I like to use at least 4 circles (I know I only pictured 3, it was late and I was watching American Idol :) I free hand my circles. I like the look of not being perfect. So my circles end up being a little oblongish. Here's roughly circle size I used: 1 1/4",
1 1/2", 1 3/4" and 2 1/4" for the biggest. (I like the outer circle to be slightly bigger.)

Use your lighter and singe the edges of all your circles. Be sure to be aware of what is around you so that you don't start a fire :)
I like to curl the edges a little by heating the sides too.

Left is before singeing, and the right is after singeing.

After all circles have been singed, stack them on top of each other.

For this next step, find something heat resistant like a cookie sheet. Heat a pin with the lighter for a few seconds and poke it through the center of the circles. Hot hot pin will melt right through.

But the brad in the center.

Use a low heat glue gun and glue a small piece of felt to the back of the flower. Singed flower is done! yay!

Thanks to Linda over at craftaholic!!

I Have found you can just about use any synthetic fabric.
